Short Story Resources
Here is a great free resource on the short story from KET (Kentucky Educational Television). The professional development resource has some great content on characterization that could be adapted for use in mini-lessons on short story writing craft including ways to develop characters, hook the reader, showing or creating "snapshots" for the reader and more. I have adapted the "Eight Ways to Reveal Character" (Hensley, 9-10) handout into a mini-lesson and the examples were very accessible for my sixth grade students and allowed for an interactive discussion.
