Magisto for Projects and Checks for Understanding

Migisto is a free android app that can be used to make quick and delightful videos for student projects. Last year, my 7th grade students used the app to record their own TV News programs based on events in the novel Tangerine. I was pleased with the results, which were professional and interesting.

Using this tool, students can edit video captured via cellphone or other device. They can add a theme and a soundtrack too, which makes the app an easy and engaging tool for quick assessment.

Edutopia published an excellent list called "53 Ways to Check for Understanding". Students could use Magisto to create a short video for #32 "interview you," explaining why a topic is important or identifying key ideas. The possibilities really are endless, and this provides a creative way to allow students to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding.
